From Poor Immigrant to U.S. Ambassador PDF Print E-mail

Golden Bones, the memoir of a Cambodian refugee, Sichan Siv, begins and ends as an inspiring recollection of how a series of poignant circumstances turned a man once leading a privileged life into a slave under the rule of Pol Pot.  Risking life and limb, Siv, escaped the killing fields of Cambodia and managed to gain sponsorship to immigrate to the United States.  With only a few dollars in his pocket, Golden Bones goes into detail about the trials and tribulations that led a poor refuge to eventually become a U.S. Ambassador the United Nations.

Washington, DC – For many immigrants-regardless of race, creed or origin-America continues to be a beacon of hope.  Many come seeking political or economic asylum, some for the opportunity of a fresh start but all with a dream of a better life – the American Dream.  Some dreams are realized, some are dashed, but out of the ashes has come one dream that was realized only through courage, diligence, tenacity and the iron will to survive.

A featured speaker at the final U.S. Asia Center Business Roundtable Symposium, held in Las Vegas, Ambassador Siv received high accolades from esteemed participants and panelists including Former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta.  In the humble form he is infamously known for, the Ambassador commented, “I only hope Golden Bones will be an inspiration for generations to come, for those who believe in the American dream, especially for those who must triumph over adversity.”  On the eve of what has been universally regarded as the luckiest day of the year, 8-8-08, Golden Bones, needing no luck, reached the San Francisco Chronicle Bestseller List.

For the remainder of 2008, Ambassador Siv will be on tour, promoting Golden Bones and telling his story around the country. To find out when he will be in your city and to learn more about the man and his journey, please visit www.sichansiv.com.
